NEOS MAGAZINES & THE ULTIMATE CLIPLOADER

Caveat

These are pictures and comments on how I modified my Ultimate Clip Loader© to accept and fill magazines for the Beretta© Neos. It is NOT a perfect solution and doesn't work perfectly every time. For me, this was a better solution than having the Neos magazine modified to fit the clip loader. Any modification you do to your Ultimate Clip Loader, you will be doing at your own risk and you will void any warranty, expressed or implied.
*This is my first semi-technical article and as such I may have missed or not described something I did completely. I will appreciate your constructive comments. I am a graphics designer and images work better for me than long wordy paragraphs and I hope this works for you as well.

ISSUE
What's the big issue with the Ultimate Cliploader and Beretta Neos magazines? Well, you can slide them in and out of the Cliploader all day long and they will not load! The Neos magazine does not press down the ball bearing inside the Cliploader which allows the rounds to drop into the magazine. I flipped the Cliploader over and in taking a closer look noticed that the forward edge of the Neos magazine was bumping into the plastic beside the ball bearing. The Neos magazine couldn't seat deep enough to be able to load. When I searched Google there were zero notes on this topic, but now there's probably hundreds, but hopefully this site set the bar for picture clarity. Maybe someone will come up with something better?

Observation
When I bought the Ultimate Cliploader I didn't have a clue that I would eventually write about it and the Beretta Neos magazine. So you're not going to find any "before" pictures. If you are inclined to take your own "before" pictures, please send me a note and upload those pictures using the uploads page. I'll post those pictures and give you credit.
The Ultimate Cliploader & Beretta U22 Neos Magazines

These are my notes on how I modified the Ultimate Clip Loader to accept Beretta U22 Neos magazines.

•The shaped tool bit is what I used in a hand held Dremel tool. I installed foam pads on the base of the Neos magazine. The pads on the magazines do nothing to help load rounds from the cliploader. The pads provide me with positive feedback when I load them in the Neos.

I used the forward edge of the Neos magazine as a guide to trim away the plastic next to the ball bearing. I have linked each picture to a high resolution picture that you can click on for greater detail. Pictures on the right will have an overlaid green line which is the line I trimmed to.
With the Ultimate Cliploader still together I pushed a Neos magazine into the load slot and observed how it should press over the ball bearing. Then, I took the cliploader apart and pushed the magazine up the open slot and pressed the top edge over the ball bearing to see how much excess plastic needed to be trimmed. Using the top of the magazine as a guide I used a pencil to mark above the area that had to be removed. It's best to remove a little at a time, refitting the top of the magazine after each grind.

Position of magazine stop and loaded magazine. Rounds do not fall cleanly every single time and there is the occasional standup, but 95 percent of the time it works well. I have found that a slight shaking helps the magazine to load cleanly. This was a better solution for me than having the magazine modified. I did have my gunsmith, ADM Gun & Rifle Makers, Southlake, Texas, tune the magazines to the Neos. As they came from the factory, one was pinched at the top and had to be opened up. My suggestion is to compare both magazines to each other at the top. If they match, you should be good to go.
