U.S. Rep.-elect Dan Crenshaw appeared on “Saturday Night Live” to get some revenge and shake hands following last week’s episode in which a cast member mocked his war injury.
Criticism was swift after Pete Davidson joked that some people might be surprised that Crenshaw, 34, a U.S. Navy veteran, was “not a hitman in a porno movie,” alluding to the eyepatch that Crenshaw wears since losing his right eye during a 2012 deployment to Afghanistan.
Republicans and veterans groups quickly condemned the joke, with Crenshaw saying : “What passes for humor these days is not what used to pass for humor and that’s the big tragedy in all of this.”
Days after the show, the Texas Republican was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives.
This week, Crenshaw joined Davidson onstage in New York City to put the incident behind them.
“In what I'm sure was a huge shock for people who know me, I made a poor choice last week,” Davidson said before Crenshaw appeared. “I made a joke about Lieutenant Commander Dan Crenshaw, and on behalf of the show and myself, I apologize.”
“I mean this from the bottom of my heart. It was a poor choice of words. The man is a war hero and he deserves all of the respect in the world. And if any good came of this, maybe it was that for one day the left and the right finally came together to agree on something: that I'm a d—,” he added.

Davidson appeared to be surprised but laughed in response.
Video Then Crenshaw took a few shots at the “SNL” star.
“This is Pete Davidson,” Crenshaw said as a photo of Davidson appeared. “He looks like if the meth from 'Breaking Bad' was a person,” Crenshaw said. “He looks like a troll doll with a tapeworm.” And then, “He looks like Martin Short in 'The Santa Clause 3.' By the way, one of these people was actually good on 'SNL.'”
“You’re not wrong,” Davidson replied.
Since Saturday's episode fell on Veterans Day weekend, Crenshaw told viewers the best way to respect service members is to tell them “Never forget.”
“Never forget those we lost in war, and never forget those we lost on 9/11, like Pete’s father.”

Former Navy SEAL Dan Crenshew was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday, winning his election for the Houston area seat.
He also won another victory on Saturday Night Live when he joined the cast to bring the Crenshaw-Davidson drama to a close.
After comedian Pete Davidson called the man who lost an eye in combat a “hit man in a porno movie” and made light of the veteran’s injury during last week’s show, Crenshaw said he didn’t need an apology from the SNL comedian.
However, he got one from Davidson during the latest installment of Weekend Update Tonight .
“In what I’m sure was a huge shock for people who know me, I made a poor choice last week,” Davidson said before apologizing on behalf of himself and the show.
Crenshaw then joined him at the Weekend Update desk where Davidson also apologized to the veteran’s face.
“Thanks for making a Republican look good,” Crenshaw said to the blue-haired comedian, prompting Davidson to tell him to stop saying that.
At one point, in a jab at Davidson’s high profile breakup Crenshaw’s phone rings, playing an Ariana Grande song.
Then, to even the score and show he has a sense of humor about the whole thing, Crenshaw poked fun at a number of Davidson photos calling him a troll doll with a tapeworm and comparing him to Martin Short in Santa Clause 3 .
Finally, ending on a serious note, Crenshaw said this: “But seriously, there’s a lot of lessons to learn here. Not just that the left and the right can still agree on some things, but also this, Americans can forgive one another.”
He also encouraged viewers to connect with a veteran this Veterans’ Day weekend and tell them to “Never forget.”

Show Full Text Poking fun at the differences between men and women, Barry’s short story is an amusing look at gender stereotypes, that has gotten many people nodding their heads in agreement. Not everyone though. Our attitudes toward gender have changed so much in recent years that the piece now seems dated and simplistic to some, who know that between the black and white of woman and man there are many shades of grey. The reference to the long defunct nation of Czechoslovakia only highlights the fact that the piece was written in simpler times. This aside, it’s still a funny piece of writing that has clearly withstood the test of time for many, so surely there’s some truth in it! What do you think?
