Katherine MacGregor Dies: ‘Little House On The Prairie’ Actress Was 93

Katherine MacGregor , best known for her role as Harriet Oleson on Little House on the Prairie, has died. She was 93. MacGregor died Tuesday in Woodland Hills, California, her representative confirmed to NBC News.
MacGregor played the general store owner’s wife Harriet Oleson on all nine seasons of the 1970s series. Her favorite description of the character came in a fan letter from Minnesota in the 1970s, in which Mrs. Oleson was described as “the touch of pepper in the sweetness of the show”.
In an interview with the Santa Cruz Sentinel in 1981, MacGregor said she looked “for the humor of Mrs. Oleson,” adding “She was originally painted as just black-and-white mean. Anyone that mean has to be a fool. So I began mixing farce into it. I think the audience counts on seeing Mrs. Oleson fall on her fanny.”
Prior to Little House , MacGregor appeared on stage on and off Broadway in New York and other state’s productions including The Seven Year It and Handful of Fire. She also appeared in various television series including Love of Life (1956), The Secret Storm, The Nurses, Play of the Week (1959), East Side/West Side (1963), Mannix (1970–71), Emergency! (1972), Ironside (1972, 1974), and All in the Family (1973). She also had roles in TV movies including The Death of Me Yet (1971), The Girls of Huntington House (1973), and Tell Me Where It Hurts (1974).
After Little House wrapped its run, MacGregor mainly returned to local theater, opting to work onstage in favor of TV and film work.
Little House star Melissa Gilbert paid tribute to MacGregor on Twitter.

Mitch McConnell’s Spectacularly Tone-Deaf ‘Partisan Politics’ Rant Backfires

POLITICS 11/14/2018 01:00 am ET Updated 1 day ago Mitch McConnell’s Spectacularly Tone-Deaf ‘Partisan Politics’ Rant Backfires The Senate majority leader’s attempt to slam incoming Democrats doesn’t go over very well. By Ed Mazza Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) published an op-ed on Tuesday that slammed the incoming Democratic majority in the House of Representatives for being too partisan.
It didn’t go over very well.
In a piece posted on the Fox News website titled “Will Dems work with us, or simply put partisan politics ahead of the country?” McConnell gloated that a “unified Republican government” led to “a period of historic productivity” over the past two years. He also said bipartisanship wasn’t dead and claimed: “some of the most significant accomplishments of this Congress have been delivered with overwhelmingly bipartisan support.”

“After years of rhetoric, it’s hardly news that some are more interested in fanning the flames of division than reaching across the aisle,” he added.
Twitter then reminded McConnell of his long track record of obstructing President Barack Obama, including his successful blockade of Supreme Court nominee Merrick Garland :
Merrick. Garland. https://t.co/1hKGT7Uxx0
— Joyce Alene (@JoyceWhiteVance) November 13, 2018 Merrick is only one, albeit an important, data point. McConnells outrageous obstruction goes back much further. He tried to block and delegitimize every action taken during the Obama presidency. He blew up long-standing norms to block many dozens of judges. 1 https://t.co/48m4RKsA3y

You are the master of relentless partisanship. But it’s a new day.
— Kim Stewart (@DoryWilson) November 14, 2018 You do remember what you said about #MerrickGarland don’t you?
Surprise! We are actually better than you. And smarter. I expect NO elected Democrat to make the same kind of stupid, obstructionist remarks as you did. I don’t expect them to capitulate to your bullying, either.

— Anthony Poirier (@AnthonyPoirier1) November 14, 2018 Good to see your sense of humor is intact. Mine will kick in the day your successor is sworn into the Majority Leader position.
— White House Miscommunication Director (@HopeHacks) November 14, 2018 Asking Dems to “work with us” while you vowed recently to cut Medicare, Medicaid, & Social Security in order to pay for Trump’s tax cuts for the 1% is laughable. You guys can’t even claim anymore that the tax cuts brought jobs. https://t.co/O9Kgup9JPO
— 🧛🏻‍♀️🐰Bunicula🐰🧛🏻‍♀️ (@BuniculaTv) November 14, 2018 If you’re feeling bipartisan-y, I suggest you start with supporting the bipartisan legislation to protect Mueller. Time to cut bait and get on the right side of history. You have greatly damaged our democracy, but you can start taking steps to build it back up.
— Linda Lotspeich (@llotspeich) November 14, 2018 hey smuck F—k off , for 8 years you made Obama the focus of your white man entitlement , Then another two years beating up the people of this country, You Reap What You Sow , so i suggest you grab that shovel and start tossing that cow manure back at you and your party , KARMA

A college bathroom hides a bizarre Danny DeVito shrine, and we have questions

Do you ever leave a small offering to our Lord and Savior, Danny DeVito, during your restroom breaks?
A bathroom at Purchase College in New York hides a mildly terrifying secret: The paper towel dispenser leads to a “cavernous shrine” to American icon.

In one video, a student walks through a hole in the bathroom wall where the paper towel dispenser was ripped out, and into an unfinished room spray painted with graffiti. A DeVito cutout ominously lurks in the corner, surrounded by offerings from Purchase students.
“This is so weird,” someone says in the video.
Weird might be an understatement.

Another tweet shows how the paper towel dispenser hides the shrine from unsuspecting bathroom users.

In a tweet from last month, a student invited DeVito to visit Purchase for the “secret room that worships” him. The shrine is decked out with a poster of the grinning It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star, and a small handwritten placard instructing parishioners to “Leave An Offering for Our Lord and Savior Danny DeVito, Patron Saint of Trash Men.”
According to @terreeslavie, the shrine is “really not well known” through the campus, but since it went viral on Tuesday, news of it spread through the student body. She and her friends ventured out to find it one night, and left another picture of DeVito at the altar.
When asked for the specific location of the shrine, she demurred.
“It’s in a bathroom,” @terreeslavie said over Twitter DM. “I can’t reveal which though. It’s confidential.”

According to another student who tweeted about it, @emfriedchicken, the shrine is somewhere in Purchase’s Visual Arts building.
“One of my friends said she heard that the paper towel dispenser comes out of the wall,” she said over Twitter DM. “And she wanted to see what is behind it, so we went one Friday night at like midnight … and there it was. Danny DeVito.”
It’s “tradition” to leave something for DeVito, so @emfriedchicken and her friends left coupons from a nearby restaurant.
“We could tell it’s been there a while because there was paper towels on the floor in the secret room,” she said. “And our campus only uses air dryers now!”
Would you believe me if I said I went to a hidden Danny Devito shrine in a hole in the wall in the boys bathroom and then two drag queens came in to do a photo shoot? Because that happened
— you’ll never be shit duck (@ifaptoskittles) November 10, 2018
y’all ever remove the paper towel dispenser from the wall, walk through the wall, which then leads to a danny devito shrine and after a few minutes of being in there a bunch of drag queens come in to do a photoshoot.
— emma💐🍓 (@emfriedchicken) November 10, 2018
The shrine has been on campus for a while — @emfriedchicken said that older students remember the sacred space as well.
In a tweet, SUNY Purchase invited Danny DeVito to campus to meet his “super fans.”
“We’d like to say we’re surprised,” the college said. “But our students are well known for their creativity and sense of humor.”

If you ever find yourself on Purchase’s campus, maybe you can offer the cardboard DeVito an egg in this trying time.
